Momento Mori/Momento Vidi: Crowned Casket in Turquoise Sterling Silver and Brass Pendant Only Statement Dark Jewelry
Momento Mori jewelry, also known as mourning jewelry takes up a tradition that goes back to antiquity: An acknowledgement of the impermanence of life. Translating to "remember that you must die," the idea was not necessarily one of morbidity, but one that also served to remind one that they have a life to live (Momento Vidi). The Victorians are credited with elevating the concept in jewelry.
This turquoise (unknown mine) casket is set in darkened sterling silver under a brass crown. A hidden bail on the back (also brass) gently sets the piece against the wearer. Secret details abound like the crystal stamped on the back above the .925 hallmark.
The dark patina will naturally polish over time with wear becoming one with the wearer.
This listing is for pendant only - chain not included.
100% handcrafted in a home studio by a one woman show.
