Shakti Viga x Tribal Glass Collar Necklace: Handmade Exotic Wood Crystal and Traditional Blue and Yellow African Trade Beads
One of a kind! I handmade these crystals from reclaimed exotic wood cut offs discarded from woodworkers' projects. Each piece is sanded to silky smooth perfection and finished with an everything friendly oil (food safe! child safe! fume safe!).
This piece of wood is known as Shakti Viga, or Chakte Viga. Found throughout Mexico and Central America, Shakti Viga can range in color from bright orange to pale yellow. The color changes over time, and typically the grain becomes more pronounced. This wood sands to a nice natural luster and seems to shimmer. Though not typically readily available in large pieces, small pieces are not difficult to get ahold of. It is often used for small inlays, but secretly has excellent acoustic qualities. Shakti Viga is the closest relative to Brazilwood, a wood beloved for its acoustic properties and favored for making violins. Shakti Viga is not a threatened wood species. [Fun Fact: "Exotic" wood simply refers to a non-North American species in most cases.]
African Trade Beads have a long history and come in a beautiful variety. These are mostly a rich royal blue with touches of bright yellow with black stripes. The silver hoop has a nice chevron pattern stamp. I used a brass chain with a gunmetal finish and toggle clasp that gives the necklace an adjustable length of 16.5" to 18".
**Chain can be lengthened by request. Just add a note when purchasing.
100% Handmade and Original design. Every crystal is made by me and finished by hand.
